In pursuit of the intolerants

18 June 2008 One Comment

I have just read the article of Mr. Carlos Ruiz Miguel on La ilustración liberal. On this article, Mr. Ruiz Miguel describes clearly the galician terrorism, and illustrates the links with other organizations such as ETA. It is clear that every nationalism has its own “army”, a set of intellectually incompetent people whose aim is to impose their point of view, their ideas, through the use of the force.

Although there are few victims of this galician terrorism, this is nothing to forget. I assume the thesis that there are links between the different terrorism organizations, that the newest are learning from the more experienced. And I agree with Mr. Ruiz Miguel on this: the galician terrorism, as well as other terrorism, must not be forgotten or silenced on the media. Their actions are maybe “isolated”; but importants. Every silence here will be sorry on the future.

As I said, the actions are silenced because they are “low-level” actions, actions without injured or victims, in most part. And when I say in pursuit of the intolerants, I am pointing out to the roots of this “low-level”  terrorism. The strategy is to impose their law on the areas they can dominate: universities, civil associations, etc. There are enormous examples of actions, I will mention here some of them. One is the attack to María San Gil (former leader of the PP on the Basque Autonomic Region) on her visit to the University of Santiago de Compostela, on 2.008. Also, on Catalonia, the former Minister of Spain and now leading the PP in Europe, Mr. Mayor Oreja, was attacked by catalonian independentists on acts on this Spanish region. Even Rosa Díez, former PSOE member and now leader of the UPyD party, was boycotted on the Universidad Complutense de Madrid early this year. The attacks reach also people of civil organizations, such as the leader of Galicia Bilingüe, an organization whose aim is to talk in Spanish (and in Galician) in Galicia. Its president’ car was damaged on a nationalist attack.

As can be perceived, the attacks are not only by nationalists, but also from “groups of extremists”, but, in any case, there is a clear link with the nationalists. Most of these attacks or boycotts inside universities are concluded with no investigations within the university, which is a sign that there is something wrong on those who are governing them.

What is happening in the Spanish univerities when people who are heading a chair of Professor has to flee, for example, from the Basque Autonomic Region due to the nationalists attacks and pursuit? What is wrong in the Spanish democracy? The wrong is that there is no democracy at all when people are attacked without punishment; when people are to flee from their home and settle in other part of Spain to live in peace.

There is no peace in Spain.
